Melbourne coronavirus outbreak in aged care has raised tough questions. Here are some clues – ABC News

Extra funding, but little transparency

Aged care has two industry groups: Aged Care and Community Services Australia (ACSA) and Leading Age Services Australia (LASA).

These groups lobbied and received a total of $418 million for the sector to help it cope with COVID-19.

However, like the almost $20 billion in taxpayer funds
paid to the industry each year, there was no transparency in how it was
spent. That’s despite millions of dollars in surpluses and profits for both some church-run homes and the for-profits.
