Russians demine part of seaport in Mariupol, sending stolen steel products to Rostov-on-Don

The Russian military has demined part of
the seaport in Mariupol and is sending 3,000 tonnes of steel products by
ship to Rostov-on-Don.
According to Ukrinform, Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova said this on Telegram.

“The looting by the ruscists in the temporarily occupied territories
of Ukraine continues. Following the theft of Ukrainian grain, the
occupiers resorted to exporting metal products from Mariupol. To do
this, they demined part of the city’s seaport,” Denisova wrote.

She said that the first ship from Mariupol to Rostov-on-Don carried
3,000 tonnes of steel products. Prior to the occupation, there were up
to 200,000 tonnes of metal and cast iron worth $170 million in the port.

In addition, to make it easier to take the loot, the enemy began to restore rail links in Mariupol and Volnovakha.

“With their actions, the occupiers violate the IV Geneva Convention
of 1949 relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War
and Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court,”
Denisova said.

She asked the UN commission investigating human rights violations
during Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these
facts of war crimes and human rights violations.

Ukrainian intelligence said on May 10 that Russia was exporting large
quantities of stolen food from the temporarily occupied territories of
Ukraine. In addition to grain, the enemy is exporting large quantities
of stolen vegetables from Ukraine, including beets, potatoes, and
cabbage.

Film “Mariupol Fortress. Last Day at
Azovstal” by Dmytro Kozatsky, an Azov Regiment fighter, the regiment’s
press secretary who spent 84 days at the steelworks next to his
comrades, has been released.
The film was posted on the Telegram channel of Petro Andriushchenko, adviser to Mariupol mayor.

The film, which Orest (Dmytro Kozatsky) made the day before his
captivity, shows the steelworks from the inside. The Russians destroyed
the Azovstal, dropping bombs from the sky, constantly firing artillery
from the ground, and launching missiles from the sea. Twisted metal
rods, rails, various broken production structures, and the open sky
visible in the holes of the bombed industrial building.

“The last day at Azovstal. The video was edited by BABYLON’13 based
on materials provided by the Mariupol Garrison. We are all indebted to
our Defenders of Mariupol. There are no words to describe their feat and
heroism,” reads the caption below.

As reported, Ukrainian service members defended Mariupol for more
than 80 days. On May 16, the evacuation of Ukrainian defenders from the
Azovstal steelworks, blocked by Russian invaders, began. More than 50
seriously wounded soldiers were evacuated to a facility in Novoazovsk
for medical treatment. More than 200 people were taken to Olenivka
through the humanitarian corridor. An exchange procedure will be carried
out to return them home.

… I want to emphasize: Ukraine needs Ukrainian heroes alive. This is our principle. I think that every adequate person will understand thesewords.

The operation to rescue the defenders of Mariupol was started by our military and intelligence officers. To bring the boys home, the work
continues, and this work needs delicacy. And time.

Commanders of units defending the Azovstal
steelworks, Ukraine’s last stronghold in Mariupol, received an order
from the highest military command “to save the lives of personnel.”
That’s according to a statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

“The Supreme Military Command has ordered the commanders of the units
stationed at Azovstal to save the lives of personnel. An operation is
underway to rescue the defenders of Ukraine blocked on the plant’s
premises,” reads the statement issued overnight Tuesday.

The General Staff recalled that 53 severely wounded servicemen had
been evacuated to a medical facility in Novoazovsk, while another 211
defenders had been taken to Olenivka through a humanitarian corridor and

“Measures to rescue defenders who remain at Azovstal are underway,” the General Staff said.

In the late hours of Monday, Azov Regiment Commander Denys Prokopenko
released a video statement where he told of his soldiers’ successful
effort to distract the overwhelming enemy forces, which allowed other
units of Ukraine’s defense forces to regroup.

“The main thing is to realize whether all the risks have been
calculated, whether Plan B has been worked out, whether you have fully
dedicated yourself to this plan, which should combine fulfilling the
task and ultimately preserve lives and health of personnel,” Prokopenko
said.

“War is art, not science,” Prokopenko stressed.

“This is the highest level of command and control of troops,
especially when your decision is approved by the top military
leadership,” said the commander of the Azov Regiment.

As reported, the evacuation of Ukrainian defenders from the Azovstal plant began on Monday.

Reuters reported
that about a dozen of buses drove out of the Azovstal premises, which
could carry Ukrainian servicemen. The exact number could not be
confirmed.

It was added that, according to various estimates, nearly 600 servicemen remained at the plant, including dozens of WIAs.

On May 7, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Reintegration of
the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Iryna Vereshchuk. said that all
civilian women, children, and the elderly had been evacuated from
Azovstal.

There were about 600 severely wounded soldiers in the shelters of the
besieged steelworks, who could not receive proper medical assistance
due to lack of medicines and doctors. The plant’s premises were
constantly shelled by the invaders using all kinds of weapons.

Ukraine has offered Russia to exchange severely wounded Azovstal
fighters for Russian POWs, according to the procedure for prisoner
exchange.
